Epilogues

Yvonne was survived by her mother and stepfather, her father, her brother and

a half-brother.  Her mother was pregnant with her sister at the time of her

disappearance.  She was born before Yvonne's remains were found.

Since that time her mother and stepfather have divorced and live in different

states outside of California.  Yvonne's birth father has died.

Update

Her older brother, Mark, was unable to come to grips with his sister’s murder.

He felt, as an older brother, that he should have been able to protect her. He eventually

became homeless and struggled with addiction issues. I have learned that Mark passed away in

August of 2009. He died in his car, homeless and alone. People who commit murders have no idea

how many people are affected by their actions and how long those effects can last.

Maureen was survived by her mother, an older sister and her grandparents.

Maureen's father died before she was born.  A schoolmate of Maureen has said

that she had a very strong presence and could be a bit of an anti-authoritarian.

She would have fought hard to protect both herself and Yvonne.

This is a vintage photo of Montgomery Village, a shopping center on Farmers Lane in Santa Rosa. Victim Maureen Sterling

lived 3 or 4 blocks from where this photo was taken.  I imagine she spent a lot of time there meeting friends, window

shopping, having a soda or ice cream just like most young people do today when going to the mall.
